multidisciplinary practice wiercinski-studio has designed a portable cabin made from two steel shipping containers. the structure is formed to serve as a remote living environment and integrated workspace, which responds and adapts to the post-pandemic context we’re currently experiencing. right now, the cabin is situated within the community garden next to the szelagowski park in poznan, poland,  but is intended to relocate anywhere in the forest, and ultimately stand on the water in the future.

the shipping containers were already complete upon the cabin’s construction, while the transport and on-site assembly process lasted only a day. wiercinski-studio (find more here) partially placed the cabin on the roofs of pre-existing containers, which serve as storage space for the garden.

the cabin consists of two cargo containers, 12 x 2.5 m and 2.9 m tall. including a fully functional living room, kitchen, workspace, bedroom, and bathroom, the interior comprises 54 sqm of usable space. the walls of the portable cabin are insulated with spray foam and finished with birch plywood, generating a unique atmosphere inside.

the characteristic façade made of thick trapezoidal sheet metal was intentionally left untouched

the characteristic façade made of thick trapezoidal sheet metal was intentionally left untouched, to show the sincerity of the raw construction. the walls are painted a dim green color which allows the cabin to blend seamlessly into the natural surroundings. meanwhile, the cabin is complemented by the external steel stairs and a characteristic arched balustrade on the terrace.

all furniture pieces, including the bench, the table, and the chair with the round backrest, are also part of wiercinski-studio’s design. all individual items, as well as the cabin itself, are formed to be adaptable and mobile. in this way, the house ceases to be a property tied to a specific place, changing its location and accompanying the owners at every phase of their lives.
