A shipping container as a functional home?

Come see how it’s done during the Citrus Container Park’s open house event from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, at 2714 E. Dawson Drive, Inverness.

A 720-square-foot model container home — equipped with full-size appliances, a porch, two bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms — will be on site for the public to tour alongside the builders.

“It’s something else when you see it in person,” said Darren Nichter, cofounder of Citrus Container Park.

Design layouts are almost endless with the stackable and sturdy steel boxes, Nichter said, and the open house will help answer questions about how a residence could be developed with them.
