But would you live in a shipping container? What about one with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and a view of downtown Louisville?

"Each unit consists of two shipping containers that are 8 feet wide and 40 feet long. We cut out the middles of the containers and sandwiched them together to create a one bedroom, one bath living space," said Loren Prizant, owner of the property.

They're calling it the Re-Nu Container Homes. Four units are residential, and two are available to rent through Airbnb.

Each home is complete with a full kitchen, one full bath, washer and dryer. The upstairs units also have a balcony.

The new units sit at the corner of Wenzel and East Jefferson.

Developers say these 600 square foot homes are a minimalist dream.

"It's a great place to come and live in a smaller home. You can walk everywhere in this very vibrant community, lots of shops, breweries, restaurants. Anything you need for living is right here," Prizant said.

Not to mention, they're environmentally friendly.

The complex is in the Phoenix Hill neighborhood, near Nu-Lu and Butchertown, three vibrant and constantly-changing areas with plenty to do. Residents of the area say they're excited about the new development.

"It shows signs of a lot of growth, being so close to NuLu and seeing all the new restaurants, the business opportunities, the evolution and how busy it is," said neighbor Chad Kunkel. "It's just a good sign of what's to come for the Louisville, not just the city but also this local community."

Re-Nu container homes are available to rent on Zillow or Apartments.com.
